Homework Project 2 Task 6

From everything I have learnt through this project about Media Ownership, I believe that people like Rupert Murdoch, own a large amount of the Media, and they abuse this, the are to powerful and I think own to much of the Media in this world, they have the power to change people's thoughts on others, political views and can stereotype other people or groups to negatively when positive, or positively when negative. They should not own this amount of the Media, or they should for sure not use this as a way of power. This is the main issue that is related to Media Ownership, in my own opinion.

Homework Project 2 Task 5

State 10 Bullet Points that show the problems in the given video.
  • Media influences how we live everyday life and influences our political views.
  • It can lead to disagree with the Media and forming a whole new view they have created.
  • Because of the Media and Negative Press, has had a huge impact on Scottish people, lifestyle and Scottish politics.
  • One of the biggest complaints was the cost of the Parliament's new building.
  • The relationship between the Media and Politicians are ambiguous, they need each-other, but at the same time are suspicious of each other.
  • If the Media was taken out of Politics, citizens would be clueless to what was happening at the given time.
  • Also, if the Media was taken out, whoever was in power at the time would abuse the power and take it for granted.
  • Sometimes it can cause the journalists to become the campaigners.
  • Normally, the Media wouldn't make a difference, but this time it was because of the Media that the prison in Aberdeen stayed open.
  • The Newspaper and Media together make a powerful combination, Politicians can't ignore this.

A key person to Dave would be Darren Childs, a man who is in charge of Mass Media industries, Dave are funded by Mass Media, as they are the industry that first launched Dave and still fund it to stay on air to this day.

Homework Project 2 - Task 1

This is my mind map on Rupert Murdoch's companies and which countries they are in.
My mind map.
TASK 1 EXTENSION:
1a). Rupert Murdoch makes the point that the BBC is at a higher income, population and is with a higher power than the other Media Studios out there. He also says that whilst other studios increase and decrease in population and income, the BBC will always be the one that are at 1st place, and are still increasing. He can guarantee that also.

1b). in my opinion I think yes the BBC do have to much power, they have a lot of money and could last a little while without the Fee, but we should have the License Fee. Without it there would not be a BBC as they would not have the money to carry on the studio.

Social Media and my Internet Use Task 6

The argument " Social Networks don't bring us closer together as we now talk through computer screens rather than to each other." has a strong argument on both of it's sides. Some people may believe that Social Networks bring us closer, but some may believe the opposite.

People may disagree this statement as Social Media could be used for people who may not be able to talk face to face because they live to far away from each other, or for people who may have problems with speech, this could be a way of talking to one another. It has brought many people together and has formed tonnes of online friendships and relationships, which could've led to meeting in person and being able to have a real bond with the person. Another way Social Media brings us together is by using it to organize a party, or event. Whether that's a charity fundraiser, a birthday party, or even just a get together with some friends and family. These are all ways that Social Media brings us together.

However, on the other hand, some people may agree/believe this statement. Some of these reasons being that we talk on Social Media's to people, but when it comes to conversing face to face many people are shy, don't know what to say, and let's be plain honest, it's awkward. Social Media's are used to boost our Social Skills, but that doesn't just mean the internet. Our Social Skill's include reality. But in some ways Social Media decreases Social Skills. Another way that Social Media don't bring us closer together is because of how some people may take chatting behind a phone or computer disrespectful. This may be because if your sat a table across to that person, they may think you don't actually want to talk to them in person. So your texting them instead.

I agree with Leah about that talking behind a screen could be seen disrespectful yes, but I also agree with when Leah said we can use Social Media to chat about the latest gossip also.

In my opinion I don't agree with the statement. This is because from personal experience I know Social Media brings us closer together from meeting new people at events, or seeing someone I didn't know I could be such good friends with, bringing us closer together. I believe that the Social Media has brought me closer to many people and has also done the same for many people around the world.

Social Media and my Internet use Homework Project! Activity #5

If I had been given the job to advertise or promote the Artist and the Record Label by the Company selling the music I would firstly create a page on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram for the record company and have someone check the accounts daily. This is so the fans are updated with the latest information, songs and albums and they can keep track of what has been released or what is to come.
Another good idea would be to host competitions on the Social Media wall's to win free songs, albums or merchandise. An example could be " Like this post, repost and tag 3 friends for the chance to win a free "Record Company Name" Shirt and a free song from the new album!". This would get people interested in what you are promoting so they will enter the competition. If you did this often more people would get samples of the albums and if they like it they may buy more songs or maybe even the full album, expanding the amount of listeners rapidly.

In addition to this, I would also make sure that the Record Company had a new updated logo at least every month to keep people interested. It needs to stand out by using different variety's of colour every time, fonts, size and even just the small things can make a big difference. Doing this attracts other people and other groups towards your record label as it stands out from the crowd. Every month it is fresh and unique.
Furthermore into the subject, I would make sure that whoever is in control of the page's goes on daily and replies to fans and questions that the Record Company receive. The fans will appreciate it a lot because they are receiving your personal attention. If you put the time into your fans, the fans will put there time to listen to your music.

My final idea would be not to be scared. Don't be afraid of asking your fans questions about what they want to see or what they think of what your giving them. They always want new things to be answering and seeing. That is why you should also never be scared to post multiple times in a day. Maybe even in a few hours. You could post different things, or post the same thing to make sure no one missed out. This helps your posts and your page become more popular and therefore yet again there is a good chance your audience will expand.

Thank you for reading this blog post.

Social Media and my Internet use Homework Project! Activity #4

After looking at my friends and my Facebook page, I have noticed that out of everything that gets shared onto there walls that usually it's funny videos or vine's that are shared, things like people falling over or ranting about things they see on the internet. Occasionally you see music videos or remixes/mash up's of songs, once there was an old song from the 90's and someone had remixed it together with another song that'd just came out, the amount of friends that shared that was crazy.

I believe that people share these types of media because it comes under the genre entertainment, people enjoy to see it on there walls, this could be because it makes them laugh and they enjoy watching it. Furthermore it could be that the song is new and they want people to hear it or they want their opinion. Even if it's an old song the friends that share it might just like the song in general, like when you hear a song from a long time ago so you share it and put " Who remembers this ?" or "This used to be my favourite song". Come to think about it I see that on my friends pages too. But who benefits from what my friends share ? The people that created the music or made the video, because they get credit from the viewers and views which gives a chance for that to grow out into further Social Media's and more shares = more views = more notice. If it was a funny video that had gone viral, like " Deez Nuts" or Andy Tate then the person that benefits from that would be that person themselves, they become famous or well known and from there anything could happen.

Sometimes you do see people post/share a campaign or petition, a couple of months ago everyone shared a petition on bringing back the Inbetweeners for either one more film, series or even just a special episode. People do share inspiring videos that make you think how lucky we are, or how seriously horrible others lives are. About how the young children in poverty starve and how we have everything and they have nothing. You might have seen the video where it shows how someone with money in China lives and someone in poverty in China lives, and by doing this it makes people think and sympathise. As well as benefiting the company appealing for the aid of public it's benefiting the people that live in poverty because money is being donated and given to them. This happens a lot and sometimes I have seen friends/followers cry over videos like these.

Finally, people share adverts to do with things that they want all the time, this could be a new pair of trainers they want, or some clothes they've ordered recently. I see this on my friends timelines on the occasion but I can't remember a time I've ever done that either. The shoes could be a new brand or new make which could benefit the Brand ( Nike ) ( Addidas ) because they are promoting there new shoe/clothing and because people follow the latest trend on Media and Social Life. The company probably know that by the person posting the photo other people will "follow the crowd" and get some too. Even if it's an old brand of shoe it will probably come back into fashion at one point so they are still at advantage.

I would like to finish by saying, all the benefits I have just described, are in some way also benefited just by Social Media alone, not just the people who share and post them.
Thanks.

Social Media and my Internet use Homework Project! Activity #3

I use the internet in different ways all the time, sometimes I use it to check my social media or listen to my music, it could be shopping for things, school/home work and anything else I want to use the internet for. I'll admit, I do spend a lot of my time on the internet, sometimes it could be for a useful purpose but most of the time it's just because I'm bored and want something to do. Or you could just say for no reasonable explanation. Just wasting my "valuable" time. Even if I'm at home on the sofa or out with my friends, laid in bed when I can't sleep, lunch and break time at school,  I'll be on the internet.

Social Media is probably my most visited genre on the internet. I always have to look at my Facebook, Snap chat and Instagram first thing in the morning, last thing before bed, I literally don't feel right if I don't because I have to keep up with all of the gossip and banter that goes on in the world on Facebook. I think that's the main reason I got Facebook, before I had no idea what the latest gossip was but now I have my social media's I know pretty much everything that goes on as I think my media teacher realises. Thinking about it, the time I spend on social media kind of worries me, the fact that I spend at least a quarter of the time I'm awake on Facebook or something. I click the Facebook app at least 30 times a day, no exaggeration. Just to reply to someone's message or like someone's photo. As soon as I hear about it I'll be straight onto it because I'm just nosey. I think Social Media has increased my attitude ( in a bad way )  and how nosey I can be, this shows that being on the media can affect how you act or treat someone in some cases.

When I'm on the internet, I hardly ever use anything else, unless that's putting some music on in the background of my Facebook session, or watching YouTube videos that I find funny or interesting, I never find anything interesting or funny so it has to be good. If I'm not doing that, it'll be shopping for my scooter, camera or any essentials that I might need. Also there's the odd revision and homework that I do online. But now I'm in GCSE Media I think that the amount of time I spend doing homework on the internet will increase. However, this is a good purpose to use the internet.

People are saying all the time that the internet is distracting children from their school work, or stopping children from going out with their friends for a couple of hours. Personally I agree. Every so often I'll admit I check my phone in lesson time, to see if I have any notifications or messages that I don't really need to look at, but I will because the internet is like an addiction, I have to take a look. This isn't a good thing, I'm missing out on revision tactics or information that could be key towards coursework or my exams. The worst bit about it is that it's things I need to know. That's why I've started to turn my phone off during lesson time. Another scenario; I could be having a family dinner, or my friends wanting me to come out but I'm too busy on my device surfing the internet. We all know it's tradition to keep our phones off the table at dinner. It's the rudest thing to do at the dinner table.

I'm not saying my internet use is bad, but I could cut down on how much I use it. Alright if it's for homework then that's an exception, but the time I spend on Social Media's.

Thank you for reading my blog on what I've noticed about my internet use, how it affects me, how long I use it for and everything else.
