The News Learning Project

Task 1 : News Info-Graphic

Task 2: Labelling Newspaper Front Cover.

Task 3: News agency.
A news Agency is an organisation that find news and reports and sells them to subscribing news organisations. Such as a newspaper establishment. Magazines. TV News Shows. However, a News Agency could also be seen as a news service or news wire.
They supply news for organisations such as The Sun or Daily Star so they can publish news everyday.

Task 4: Article on Jeremy Corbyn
I believe that the Media have manipulated and fixed stories about the man, and made him come across alot more negative and nasty than he really is. But today's society it is easy to do so and it clearly is shown that it has been done very easily. Evidence to support my answer are the statistics on the article. 51 per cent of people agreed that coverage had been deliberately biased and while 21 per cent said they were not sure" and Labour voters were even more adamant with 69 per cent alleging bias, while a staggering 97 per cent of Labour members and supporters intending to vote for Jeremy Corbyn in the leadership election perceived bias".
There is alot more evidence than this but these are the most simple statistics that come from average people and politicians also.

Task 5: Impact of Social Media.
I believe that Social Media has a large impact on news, and its way of being gathered and reported. Because the amount of people who use Social Media it is so easy to fix and twist what has been gathered. On top of this, the amount of un-official news reporters make it easy for the news to be twisted as people who support and like the pages are bound to assume its correct. An example, Owen Russel someone who went to Dinnington Comprehensive was attacked by a Clown and put in hospital. A news source said a brick was thrown at him, but what actually happened was that a sharp branch was struck over his head. A fine example of how Social Media impacts the news as this was all stated on Facebook.

Representation of Gender in the media Homework

Task 1
I think that the media does not present the real world. This is becuase films, are very unrealistic and fiction. The newspaper often twists the story's, or they have a biased opinion, music videos are an exaggeration of reality, TV Programmes are just like films, they are mostly unrealistic and fiction based. Magazines are about celebrities and are similar to newspaper, so the things you read are normally informal, lies, gossip and biased. An example of this could be - The Walking Dead ( TV Show ) about zombies and surviving, there is also an app and a game, and comics of this, zombies are very unrealistic and it is very fiction based. Another example could be "HELLO!" magazine, this is mostly based around celebs and how they live, which to us is seen as an exaggeration of reality.

Task 2
The main reasons for the lack of equality and how men are selected or by default to be the protagonists in games is due to the stereotyping of the media. Men are seen to be more strong and fierce, and some people probably believe that playing as a man makes it easier, Because men are seen this way and women are seen as more fragile, people choose to play as men over women. This is becuase the media make it look like this even though it isn't. Like we've been brainwashed to think men are the more important in games.

Task 3
1.) It was determined that 16 percent of the women who have taken home the Best Actress Oscar over the past 88 years of the Academy Awards have done so for playing the very complicated role of... wives.
2.) While an estimated 16 percent of women won Oscars for playing wives, only two percent of men won Oscars for playing husbands. Overall, female actors have won the same percentage of Oscars for playing widows and blue collar workers (10 percent each), whereas men have won awards for playing blue collar workers six times more than they have for playing widowers.
3.) I disagree with -Women should dream about being wives and mothers, while men should dream of being professionals.
4.)Six Best Actress Oscars have been awarded to women playing sex workers, while no Best Actor has ever won for playing one. one can see how roles that emphasize a woman's sexuality are celebrated and pushed to the forefront, while male roles don't require a similar appeal.
5.) Women are taught to value their bodies and gender roles as mothers and wives over their minds.
These are the 5 main arguments that is a question of agreeing or disagreeing.
Task 4
patriarchal social system can be defined as a system where men are in authority over women in all aspects of society. In modern American culture and society, the idea of patriarchy is not as accepted or practised as it once was decades ago.
I believe we don't live in a society this way becuase there are alot of women that are in charge these days. Decades ago women did not have as many rights or as much freedom as they do now, and there are some aspects where men are still seen this way but I believe it is only a small amount. Evidence of this could be - When in the World War women worked in factories to make bullets and heavy artillery.

Task 5
From the media we could use evidence to support Judith Butlers belief could be - A transgender. You were born a boy but by adopting characteristics learnt from society wanting to be a girl. Or becoming a girl through adopting characteristics so changing.
A specific text could be -As we grow, we learn how to behave from those around us. In this socialization process, children are introduced to certain roles that are typically linked to their biological sex. The term "gender role" refers to society's concept of how men and women are expected to act and behave. Gender roles are based on norms, or standards, created by society. In American culture, masculine roles have traditionally been associated with strength, aggression, and dominance, while feminine roles have traditionally been associated with passivity, nurturing, and subordinationSource: Boundless. “Gender and Sociology.” Boundless Psychology. Boundless, 20 May. 2016. Retrieved 21 May. 2016 from https://www.boundless.com/psychology/textbooks/boundless-psychology-textbook/gender-and-sexuality-15/gender-414/gender-and-sociology-296-12831/

Task 6

Media producers could simply start to add more female characters to shows, games, that are the

protagonist, so that equality is shown alot better and more clearer. Also, when in the newspaper or

magazine, make sure that it is not biased opinion, and if stories are twisted to make women

seem weaker, avoid doing this.

Creativity - Extended Learning Project.

Define Creativity -
My Definition: Being as different as you can and thinking outside the box.
Official Definition: Involving the use of the imagination or original ideas to create something.
The similarities are that they both show use of imagination and actually thinking about something, but the difference is that they are worded differently and they could mean different thing as there are alot of creative aspects. I believe my definition is better becuase I understand it better and know what I mean by it.

Creativity and Originality -
I agree with the quote from Herman but also disagree, imitation can be creative as you could use the thing you have imitated as inspiration, or change and edit these things to make it original and your own. I believe a media text that is imitated but still creative could be Lady Gaga. She is unique and different, always surprising her audience, she used David Bowie and other similar artists as inspiration and copied them but was still very creative with what she does. This is still creative even though it is imitated.

Colourbleed -
I think the film is creative becuase some of the camera angles used, especially how the camera follows the woman when she starts to bleed and at the end where the blue droplet falls. The shots had a variety, some that are not always used also, we normally see Long, Medium, but in this we saw a large variation of camera angles. There seemed to be hardly any sound, only when the setting was the street, the speech and the eery tense music in the background. This added to how the film was unique, The main character came along as a creative young woman who lived her own lifestyle and didn't care what anyone thought, she was interested and inspired by the colourful bird, whilst the woman came across as very dull, evil and quite mysterious, The story to me, made no sense, I didn't really understand what was happening until the very end, but the questioning and curiosity added to the creativity and weirdness of the short film. The colours were very dull, I noticed how the city was dull and there was no colour, apart from the bird, the woman expressing herself and her artwork at the very start. The only time colour started to show was when the woman started to bleed, and she spread it around. Then especially at the end with the bird on the wall. The lighting was mostly more dark than bright, becuase I think the film was meant to be dull and boring, apart from the main character, The setting was in a boring town, where everyone seemed to be rather miserable, the characters costumes added to the dullness, but again, that's apart from the main character.

Inspiring Creativity -
Reading the article I was especially inspired by the idea of going outside and respecting what we have. A lot of people don't like to do this, they would rather sit and play games all day but this article inspired me to take my 350D + 700D out and get some photos. I would normally do this anyway but at the time I wouldn't have been in the mood if it wasn't for the article. As a result I have decided I will start being more creative and when I see something that could look better do it up to be creative and have creativity.

Be Creative -
This is a video I made on my YouTube channel. I organised, edited and filmed everything and the rider is a professional SMX rider. I crated all of this in under 24 hours and was very proud when I uploaded it. This is an example of me being creative and there are tonnes more on the YouTube channel, more things like these, Vlogs EG. But this is a video that I feel is creative.

Lady Gaga Extended Homework Project.

Introduction -

Lady Gaga is a Pop Star/Performer who sings and dances. She is very unique and different, in some ways follows Madonna, Marilyn Monroe, David Bowie and other unique stars. She is famous for many things, especially her singing, but also is well known for the Dress made of Meat, which she once wore, and also for starring in American Horror Story Season 5 - Hotel. Gaga's real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta and she was born in Manhattan, New York, United States of America on March 28th 1986. She is now 29 years of age. She went to Tisch School Of The Arts, and New York University; she dropped out of University though. Gaga does believe in Jesus, she went to a Catholic School, however she is a selfist. A selfist is someone who believes that God is inside of us all and we are all a god to our selves.

Early Career -

Gaga recorded a few songs with Hip-Hop artist Grandmaster Melle Mel before the fame for an Audio book, then creating her own band which were called the "Stefani Germanotta" band. They played gigs in small town bars, and in small theatres until creating a small fan base, and a Music Producer Joe Vulpis noticed them, making the Band a little larger, playing other small gigs in New York. After a few years, in 2006 Gaga was signed by Def Jam records, and many other Record Companies, such as Streamline Records also. By this time Lady Gaga started to grow, getting larger and larger and eventually started to create a larger Fan Base. Like an average singer/songwriter.

The Fame -

By 2008, Gaga lived in Los Angeles and her career was increasing and spreading rapidly and very successfully. Whilst she was here, she started to produce her first Debut album; The Fame. It was played on Radio and released to shops slowly, and songs like Just Dance and Poker Face became very popular and well known, by 2009 selling over 9 million records. Her song Poker Face then won Best Dance Recording at Annual Grammy Awards, for Song and Record of the year! The album, The Fame itself was nominated for Album Of The Year and won Best Dance Album at the same award ceremony. Later on she carried or to produce many different songs and albums, winning awards and achieving a great status, songs like Paparazzi won Best Special Effects and other awards. Gaga was getting big, very fast, winning awards for nearly every album produced. Over the years, Gaga has become very successful and still is to this day, she became famous after the awards she received and the signings of Record Companies. An example of what Gaga is well known for could be her song Poker Face, Paparazzi, the album Born This Way, or The Fame. Lady Gaga is also very well known for her unique style, clothing, video and song. Using Religion and other styles that would not be seen in Pop music, and making them fit, also for the dress she wore which was completely made out of meat, and other crazy and unique clothing styles.

Musical Style and Influences -

Her music normally associates with genre's like Pop, Electronica and Dance, but something smart about Lady Gag is that she is able to add other unconventional themes to these types of music and make them work, for example, Religion in the song "Judas", or the style of punk or rock music is used, especially in the song Judas and Born This Way Album Cover. It seems very Gothic but it is still a Pop Album cover, which is smart and works for Gaga. She has before been associated with other Pop Stars/Performers, such as Tony Bennett and many more. Her music style has been influenced by other Artists, some say she copied the Style of David Bowie and Madonna, in her album cover "Born This Way" a fake beauty spot is shown, meaning she copied the style of Marilyn Monroe. On top of this, we could say that she has influenced or inspired others, like they have copied/taken what she does and done it themselves, or manipulated it. People like Peaches, a female singer/songwriter, Fishcerspooner, a male singer/songwriter, Ke$ha, are all similar to Lady Gaga, this doesn't go to say that they copied her, they may just be similar or inspired by Gaga.

Controversy -

There has been alot of Controversy with Lady Gage, as she puts herself out there and it seems sometimes she purposely tries to wind people up and offend them. Most of all with her Clothing style, people were not sure about the Meat Dress, some people thought it was pure art, some believed it was disgusting. In the song Born This way, she very much showed herself off, wearing only a small amount of tape on her breasts hiding them just enough to not see them. She has also been accused of many video nasties, explicit and offensive music videos, nudity and offensive Catholic Imagery, in the song Alejandro, we see Gaga sucking on some Rosary Beeds, which was seen offensive and sexually explicit to some viewers. However, one of Gaga's biggest Controversy was with the song Judas. It had Religious iconography and offended many of it's viewers, some say it humiliated and almost destroyed the reputation of the Christian Religion, due to how Gaga confesses her love to the disciple Judas who betrayed Jesus and sold him to execution. She also disrespects this throughout the whole song. You can see why this may offend some. From what we can see, this hasn't had much of an affect on her career, yes it has forced her to answer some questions, but even after all the problems she still went on to surprise her fans with more and more unique and sometimes rude albums/song/music videos.

Ideologies and Beliefs -

Gaga is passionate about Selfism, she believes that God is inside all of us and is very passionate about this. She is passionate about her music, other artists music and the meaning of this music. What the music means to her, the producer and the audience.
Gaga takes part in many Charity events and donates to Charities, also follows these causes related to these charities and other causes, such as -

Homework Project 2 Task 6

From everything I have learnt through this project about Media Ownership, I believe that people like Rupert Murdoch, own a large amount of the Media, and they abuse this, the are to powerful and I think own to much of the Media in this world, they have the power to change people's thoughts on others, political views and can stereotype other people or groups to negatively when positive, or positively when negative. They should not own this amount of the Media, or they should for sure not use this as a way of power. This is the main issue that is related to Media Ownership, in my own opinion.

Homework Project 2 Task 5

State 10 Bullet Points that show the problems in the given video.
  • Media influences how we live everyday life and influences our political views.
  • It can lead to disagree with the Media and forming a whole new view they have created.
  • Because of the Media and Negative Press, has had a huge impact on Scottish people, lifestyle and Scottish politics.
  • One of the biggest complaints was the cost of the Parliament's new building.
  • The relationship between the Media and Politicians are ambiguous, they need each-other, but at the same time are suspicious of each other.
  • If the Media was taken out of Politics, citizens would be clueless to what was happening at the given time.
  • Also, if the Media was taken out, whoever was in power at the time would abuse the power and take it for granted.
  • Sometimes it can cause the journalists to become the campaigners.
  • Normally, the Media wouldn't make a difference, but this time it was because of the Media that the prison in Aberdeen stayed open.
  • The Newspaper and Media together make a powerful combination, Politicians can't ignore this.

Homework Project 2 Task 2

My Powerpoint on ways to change how the government works in the UK using the Media Rupert Murdoch owns.
